Superstar Mohanlal turns director with his debut venture “Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure”, begins shooting

Barroz: Nidhi Kaakkum Bhootham” (Barroz: The Ghost that Guards the Treasure) is a fantasy-adventure film, directed by the legendary actor Mohanlal, in his directorial debut. It stars Mohanlal in the title role of a treasurer named Barroz and also includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shayla McCaffrey, popular Spanish actors Paz Vega and Rafael Amargo, and Prathap Pothen. It was also revealed that Prithviraj will play a key role in the movie.

Shot in 3D, the film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor, under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. It will run for a maximum of one and a half hours. Mohanlal also revealed that the film idea came from a discussion related to the idea of ​​a 3D stage show.

Principal photography of the film started in March and will be shot at locations including Kochi, Goa, Dehradun, and Portugal. Pre-production work started at Navodaya Studio in Kakkanad, Kochi. Set design, Artwork, Music, and 3D works have been going on for over a year at the location. The shoot of the maiden directorial project has begun and is progressing at a warp speed in Kochi.

The plot in an essence is that Barroz has been protecting D’Gama’s treasure for 400 years, and has been entrusted to hand over the treasure to a true descendant of D’ Gama.

The film was launched at a star-studded event in Kochi. The who’s who of the Malayalam film industry attended the event which started a new chapter in Mohanlal’s highly decorated and illustrious film career. Superstars Mammootty, Prithviraj and Dileep attended the Pooja ceremony, gesturing the launch of the film. Photos of Prithviraj, Mammootty, and Mohanlal, taken at the event went viral. Other prominent personalities present included Priyadarshan, Sibi Malayil, and Antony Perumbavoor, among others.

‘Bollywood Megastar’ Amitabh Bachchan too wished the actor, on the directorial debut with ‘Barroz’.

Mohanlal began his career in Malayalam cinema with the 1978 film ‘Thiranottam’. In his career spanning over 43 years, Mohanlal has played an infinite number of characters, ranging from a farmer to a freedom fighter, and has captivated movie lovers with his inimitable persona and acting. The two-time National Award-winning actor still fascinates film lovers. The actor took to Twitter to share with fans that the movie went on the floors. He also shared photos taken on the sets along with other crew members. The on-screen magician has now decided to go behind the camera, and with the amount of experience Mohanlal has in the cinema, he will certainly make an excellent addition to his career as a filmmaker.

Mohanlal also has a dream technical team with him.

Jijo Punnoose is the most brilliant filmmaker and technician Indian cinema had in quite a long time. He is the filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’ a reality. His technical skill is immense, and such a person’s input will help the team in making it grand. Also, the film is based on his story ‘Barroz – Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure’.

Ace cinematographer and eminent art director Santosh Sivan will capture the visuals, and therefore some splendid visuals are definite. The cinematographer had recently shared a picture of Mohanlal with himself.

Award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad has also joined hands with the team. Art Director Santhosh Raman has also collaborated with the project.

Chennai’s child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram will handle the music department. In September 2019, it was announced that Lydian would make his debut as a film composer with the film “Barroz” directed by Mohanlal.

Mohanlal was recently seen in ‘Drishyam 2’, in which he returned as the widely popular character Georgekutty. The actor also awaits the release of the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Aaraattu’ directed by B. Unnikrishnan, and the National Award-winning film ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea’.
