Ribhu Dasgupta – Parineeti Chopra’s “The Girl on the Train” to be released on Netflix on 26 February 2021

The “Bard of Blood” director Ribhu Dasgupta has his next, a psychological thriller film with Parineeti Chopra titled “The Girl on the Train”, which will be the official remake of the 2016 Hollywood movie of the same name. The Hollywood version was in fact a screen adaptation of the 2015 famous novel written by the British author, Paula Hawkins. 

“Bard of Blood” (written by Bilal Siddiqi) which streamed on Netflix, was directed by Ribhu Dasgupta and produced under the banner of King Khan, Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

The Hollywood movie “The Girl on the Train” released in 2016, was directed by Tate Taylor and produced under the banner of Amblin Partners, Dreamworks, Marc Platt Productions, and Reliance Entertainment. Emily Blunt was in the lead playing Rachael Watson and included actors like Lisa Kudrow, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, and Luke Evans.

The Bollywood remake was unveiled by Netflix India, which posted a teaser on Wednesday (January 13), which garnered praise and attention for the intense look of Parineeti Chopra and has trended on social media. An image from the movie was earlier released by the actor on her Instagram page, which garnered a lot of appreciation from her fans. Parineeti plays an alcoholic divorcee in the movie. The film will be produced under the banner of Reliance Entertainment.

Apart from Parineeti Chopra, the cast also includes Aditya Rao Hydari, Kirti Kulhari, Avinash Tiwary, Sammy Jonas Heaney (which marks the actor’s debut), Nisha Aaliya, Ishita Dutta, Vatsal Sheth, Vishakh Vadgama, Natasha Benton, and Matthew Park.

Parineeti’s intense look in the teaser steals the show, where she has a very angry, injured, and confused look. This avatar intrigues those who watch the trailer. The actor plays Mira Kapoor (based on Rachael Watson in the original), who fixates from afar on the perfect lives of a couple during her daily train commute. The plot of the movie twists and turns when she witnesses something out of the ordinary and becomes a witness to a murder investigation. Parineeti Chopra was last seen in ‘Kesari’ and ‘Jabariya Jodi’.

Netflix India has acquired rights to the movie from Reliance Entertainment, which produced the Hollywood version. This is the first time where Reliance Entertainment is collaborating with Netflix India.

The teaser of the movie was appreciated and shared among other Bollywood actors including Parineeti’s cousin, Priyanka Chopra. Parineeti’s first co-star Arjun Kapoor (Ishaqzaade), Varun Dhawan, Nimrat Kaur, Athiya Shetty, and Kunal Khemmu, all who went ahead to shower the star with huge appreciation. Priyanka “PeeCee” Chopra sharing the teaser, took to Twitter to comment, “Proud of my girl Parineeti Chopra. Can’t wait to see you more”. Parineeti retweeted by replying that she can now sleep as she has received approval from her Mimi Didi (Priyanka Chopra).

The movie will be released on the OTT platform Netflix on 26 February 2021
