Rajeev Ravi, the ace cinematographer, has announced his next film starring Nivin Pauly in the lead. The movie, which will be a historical drama, is titled “Thuramukham” (The Harbor). The duo is coming together after the movie Moothon, which was directed by Geethu Mohandas (wife of Rajeev Ravi).
The movie besides having Nivin Pauly in the lead has an ensemble cast of Indrajith Sukumaran, Poornima Indrajith, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R Achari, Darshana Rajendran, Joju George, and Senthil Krishna. Nivin Pauly’s intense look had already gone viral among his fans.
Rajeev Ravi is well-known for directing movies like Annayum Rasoolum and Kammatti Paadam; as well as acting as cinematographer for movies including Moothon, Virus, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Udta Punjab, and Gangs of Wasseypur (both 1 & 2).
The movie, with Rajeev Ravi at the helm handling both Direction and Cinematography, has screenplay by Gopan Chidambaram, who has in turn taken inspiration for the story based on the play written by his father, KN Chidambaram. The movie will be produced under the banner of Thekkepat Films by Sukumar Thekkepat.
The movie is shot in the backdrop of Cochin Port, focussing on the protest of workers against the infamous “Chappa” system. ‘Chappa’ system existed during the 1940s and 50s in Mattancherry, the harbor town. In those times, a very cruel practice existed where, coins made of copper called Chappa, were thrown into the assembled workers, and whoever succeeded in grabbing the “chappas” were offered the job at the wharves or godowns. The movie focuses on the tumultuous period in Kerala history which revolved around the workers, unions, and corrupt bosses.
The movie will have its World Premiere at the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, Netherlands. The movie has been selected to screen at the event which will commence from February 1 and run till February 7.
With 90% of the post-production of the movie completed, it is scheduled for theatre release on 13 May 2021.
